A Gift For Subscribers
After a ridiculously busy month I'm back and sharing some things I want to give to you!
Hello my friend, I’m here, I’m here!
Fiiinally.
I missed being here a lot.
I wanted to make the time to write so much but the last month turned into a whirlwind with birthdays to be celebrated and parties to throw, school starting and those new school year germs taking us down within the first two weeks. Then a gaggle (a very noisy bunch indeed) of family came to town to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary which turned into one of the best long weekends we’ve had together in ages.
Time to work has been scarce and in the future I will probably opt to take the month of August off but I’m very excited to be back now!
If you’re new here I’m a mixed media artist and I essentially appointed myself Artist-In-Residence of my native flower garden through the course of this summer. If you’re curious about doing your own Self-Appointed Artist Residency I suggest reading Amy Stewart’s thoughts on the matter. Personally it’s something I’m highly in favor of. The work I did is part of a larger collection I’m in the midst of, that’s focused on sense of place, native plants and creativity.
Now then, I’ve been thinking a lot about you. What do I have to offer you beyond just my own rambling writing? How can I start getting my work to you in a way that feels feasible and easily accessible?
In the fragments of time I’ve been able to scrape together over the last month I’ve come up with an idea I’m pretty excited about as an offering to paid subscribers!
But seeing as how I don’t even have that set up yet I’ve decided to offer something to all of my free subscribers first. Honestly, I’m so grateful to you for following along and really want to thank you for supporting my work.
So keep your eyes peeled as I’ll be sending out a downloadable print of this piece below sometime in the next week.
Alternatively you can drop your address in here and I’ll send you out a 5”x7” of this print along with some clouds for you to play around with your own variation of my work.
I believe in making art as accessible to everyone as possible and this feels like a good way to do that. (also the print looks realllly good)
So Wait? What’s The Plan for Paid Subscribers?
Well right now I’m in the midst of working on a little zine. Once it’s a bit further along I’ll share more to give you a better idea of what the hell I’m talking about.
Ultimately my goal is to send out a bit of snail mail to my paid subscribers once every season. Whether it’s a little zine or a print of some current work or something else entirely.
I really want to be here as someone who can encourage you to build on your own creativity and connect.
Connect more with your native flora and fauna, connect more within your community, and connect more with yourself.
I’ll keep you posted as I settle into the slowness that September and October have to offer and I’m able to spend much more time consistently working.
But like I said, keep an eye on your email as I’ll be sending out a digital print sometime in the next week or so.
In the meantime I highly suggest you make these cinnamon rolls. It was breakfast for dinner last night and obviously my family of four can’t eat an entire 9x13” pan of rolls in one night so I’ve been snacking on one with some hot tea while I write. I don’t make the icing and I do half all purpose flour, half bread flour but otherwise I pretty much follow the recipe. That’s not true, I just make regular cinnamon sugar (granulated sugar with cinnamon) I never use brown sugar in it… I swear that’s the only other change I make though….
Have a great weekend! I’d love to know your thoughts on what I’m thinking about offering you and on Self-Appointed Artist Residencies so drop a comment below.
xoxo
Bec
If you know someone who might be interested in my work I would be really grateful if you took a second to share it.
