37 Feels Good
Thoughts on turning 37, some quality music recommendations, a work update and my big dream. Like, a really big one.
Today’s my birthday.
The sun is shining
The air feels cool
I have a hot cup of coffee next to me (but lets be honest, I’ll forget and it will end up cold)
Both my kiddos had a good drop off for school
I’m picking my daughter up early today so we can be surprise mystery readers for my son’s class (which is one of my favorite things to do)
And tonight I’ll be watching the Royals game and eating cake
I mean it’s pretty perfect…
I love birthday’s but I’m always surprised when mine comes how welcoming turning another year older feels. Maybe it’s because 6 months beforehand I’m already shifting into the feels of another year older. As my birthday gets closer I waver on whether I’m still 36 or have turned 37 already. I have to pause before I answer so I can get it straight in my mind.
The confidence and comfort I have in my own skin, exactly as it is, has been a welcome shift to how I once I felt. That shifted sometime around 30, when I was pregnant with Juner and that feeling has rarely wavered since.
There’s a confidence in my work too, thanks to years of pursuing and improving. I don’t always feel certain that I will be able to get it out into the world the way I want, but in my heart I know it’s what I’m supposed to be doing,
and I’ll take that.
This week I did some color testing and added more layers to a piece that put it back on track. I’m working on a draft about adding new colors into your palette and getting unstuck.
But here’s a peek at what I mixed up, and the way it impacted the work.
Listening
Well between the Ghostbusters theme song and introducing my son to Yeah Toast there hasn’t been much time left for other music but I’ve been sneaking in this song by the Revivalists and absolutely loving it, it’s literally asking for you to dance along… Just like “Yeah Toast” is asking for you to yell.
My Dream
and since it’s my birthday I’ll share this too…
I really want to own a small motel that has a property big enough for a trail that winds you around the property and is filled with native plants and a row of (affordable) artist studios. Obviously there’d be a fire pit where people can enjoy being together and have a drink and soak up what they are surrounded by….
I also want to use the studio spaces as a place to offer artist residencies through the year too. A safe, inspiring place for artists to crash while being able to share their work with people from all over.
And have a gallery space that can also be an event space that highlights our studio artists and artist in residencies work.
There’s more to it, but that’s the gist of it.
Keep your eye’s peeled for a new post in the next few days about getting unstuck, lemme me know how ya feel about your birthday and have a solid week.
xoxo

Just as a hopeful preview for you, Bec, 40-49 was my best decade ever. And I hope it’s the same for you (but savor those last three years in your 30s!). 50s so far has just been every bone of mine starts to ache and I can’t remember shit anymore
